Who are you as an artist?

My name is Anna, and I am a photographic artist based in South West England. I work with light through experimental photography and film. I am drawn to the exploration of thresholds, borders and liminal spaces, and communicating the energies that I perceive through visual expression. I work in the darkroom a lot, using expired photographic film and paper. The 'long process' approach enables me to explore the hidden narratives that emerge from the unconscious layers of the collective mind in-between solid and defined truths.

Who are you as a photographer?

My photography is about being present with the environment and people, looking from a participant's perspective. Lately, I have developed an obsession with camera-less photography, known as 'photogram', using glass objects. I reflect on the world and express my thinking as I am exploring the interplay of translucent and solid forms, playing with symbolism and abstraction by creating etherial compositions in the darkroom, manipulating only the intensity of light and the duration of exposure. The process is both highly intuitive and very precise.

What is a 'perfect shot' for you?

A perfect shot for me is the one that I happened to come across, collect, and develop into a visualised essence of an idea. Whether using a film or a digital camera, the process is conceptually similar: the creation of the final image is just as important as capturing it.
